The receipts of the GOLD. The scarcity of Gold both here and at Shanghai has caused an advance of one per cent in the value. fortnight amount to $120,000 worth; and the exports to $330,000 inclusive of the shipments per Behar on the 1st instant and excluding the present Mail's remittance of Leaf, which is smaller than for many months past,
SILVER-The arrivals have been large, amounting to $1,400,000; and the totals shipped are in aggregate $910,000. In addition to this a considerable quantity has been purchased in preparation for the direct Calcutta opportunities.
A DOLLAR CURRENCY.-Inwards $300,000, Outwards $520,000, the greater portion of which has again gone forward to India, few unimportant transactions have taken place in clean coin.
EXCHANGE.-There has been but a limited demand, and of the bills sold the larger part has gone into the hands of private buyers, who are thus, under the new regime, reaping the profits of a little private banking business on their own account.
DISCOUNT and MORTGAGES.-Discounts have been done upon undoubted paper at 7 per cent., and Mortgages at 10. Twelve per cent. is still obtainable on Chinese securities.
SHARES. These have improved a shade by a few purchases for investment; but the trade may be said to be very slow.
